US President Joe Biden has touched down in New Delhi ahead of the highly anticipated G20 Summit 2023. His inaugural visit to India is accompanied by key members of his team, including US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, Deputy Chief of Staff Jen O’Malley Dillon, and Director of Oval Office Operations Annie Tomasini. The stage is set for a crucial bilateral meeting between President Biden and Prime Minister Modi, scheduled for Friday evening.
The focal point of these talks is the reinforcement of the comprehensive global and strategic partnership shared between the United States and India to meet 2030 SUSTAINABILITY AGENDA.
The G20 is committed to further aligning its work with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to ensure that no one is left behind in the efforts to eradicate poverty, achieve sustainable development and build an inclusive and sustainable future for all, as confirmed at the Antalya Summit. This Action Plan, including the High-level Principles, contributes to global efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development (AAAA).
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, in anticipation of President Biden’s visit to India, expressed admiration for Prime Minister Modi’s stewardship of the G20.
She stated, “We commend Prime Minister Modi for his leadership of the G20 this year, and we are firmly committed to supporting India’s successful hosting of this crucial summit.”
Jean-Pierre emphasized the enduring commitment of the United States in ensuring the success of India’s G20 presidency. She also noted that during Prime Minister Modi’s previous visit to the United States in June, President Biden and the Indian Prime Minister affirmed their shared determination to advance common priorities at the upcoming summit.
Highlighting the significance of the G20, Jean-Pierre underscored that its member countries collectively account for approximately 85% of the global GDP, more than 75% of global trade, and nearly two-thirds of the world’s population.
She listed the G20 member countries as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the US, and the European Union (EU).
Upon conclusion of G20 Summit, President Joe Biden is set to leave for Vietnam on Sunday Afternoon.
